Reduce butane and naphtha losses to the refinery fuel gas system

After another engineering firm performed feasibility of using an alternate stream to replace the current absorber lean oil, C&I was brought in to do definition and detail design. The refinery, in the Midwest, sought to recover more peptanes and butanes by using a heavier lean oil stream. C&I optimized the design, which allowed for recovery from an additional stream into the sat gas plants. This actually helps increase the recovery of valuable gasoline components, thus increasing ROI on the unit.

C&I’s involvement included extensive piping rework, adding pumps and heat exchangers, and recommissioning a tower vessel that had been mothballed so that it could serve in the recovery of the lighter content. C&I’s procurement, process, mechanical, and project controls departments participated in the two-year project.
