C&I Recognized for Safety Excellence at Marathon Petroleum

C&I Earns Third Marathon Petroleum BBS Contractor Champion Award in 2026

C&I Engineering earned Marathon Petroleum’s Behavior-Based Safety (BBS) Contractor Champion award for the third time in 2026 at the Catlettsburg Refinery. This recognition highlights C&I’s commitment to safety excellence and continuous improvement.

Marathon’s Behavior-Based Safety program focuses on observation, coaching, and accountability. Trained employees and contractors observe work activities, identify at-risk behaviors, and share constructive feedback. As a result, teams can address potential hazards before incidents occur. The program also promotes open communication and continuous learning across the refinery.

In addition, Marathon recognizes outstanding participation through its monthly BBS Champion program. The award highlights individuals and contractors who strengthen safety performance and help create a safer workplace.

This latest recognition reflects the daily efforts of C&I employees who support Marathon’s safety culture. In particular, Brooke Williams has played a key role in the program’s success. Brooke spends time one-on-one with the C&I field personnel to reinforce safe work practices. Through that hands-on approach, employees gain practical tools to recognize hazards and work more safely.

Winning the BBS Contractor Champion award three times in a single year is a significant achievement. More importantly, it demonstrates C&I’s commitment to the same principles that drive Marathon’s safety culture: keeping people safe, doing jobs right, and ensuring everyone goes home safe.

Safety is a core value at C&I Engineering. Therefore, we invest in training, employee engagement, and continuous improvement across our organization. We also participate in OSHA’s Voluntary Protection Program (VPP), one of the nation’s premier workplace safety programs. Learn more about our commitment to safety on the C&I Safety Page.
