The HD-5 project encompassed an all out process design effort within a compressed schedule. C&I revised the original ISBL processing scheme saving an estimated 5MM - altering the fractionation controls and treating section. C&I's new processing scheme left the existing Depropanizer in its original service. A new high pressure Deethanizer, that used chilled cooling water instead of a propane refrigeration system, would be installed. A preflash of the condensed and chilled Debutanizer off gas product reduced the C2 and lighter content of the Deethanizer feed allowing an even greater C3 plus recovery using only the chilled water.
