C&I is equipping the refinery’s Crude Unit (CU) process area flare system with flare gas recovery (FGR) to conserve energy and meet new environmental regulations that require the conversion of the CU Atmospheric Charge Heater (H-501X) to ultra-low NOX burners, and elimination of burning any streams with sulfur content over 160 vppm. The Flare gas recovery will recover the following streams on a normal basis: Flare header refinery fuel gas purge, Fuel gas purge, Crude Unit Vacuum jet non-condensibles, Periodic drum drainage from area knockout drums that flash into the flare header, Leakage from connected equipped, Gas normally compressed when shutdown or capacity is exceeded.
