Electrical Modeling and Infrastructure Upgrade

C&I developed and currently maintains a model of the entire electrical distribution system for the refinery (approximately 100 MW load). The model consists of five points of service at 138 kV with 15 kV, 5 kV and 480 V distribution. C&I used the model to expand the refinery (adding two additional 30/50 MVA points of service), anticipate motor starting problems (14,000 Hp motor) and coordinate protective devices (substation, distribution and generation). The design included adding a synchronizing bus to accommodate in-plant generation and design of reactor ties to limit the short circuit duty seen by existing equipment.
