3D Design and Review
3D DESIGN
C&I engages in rigorous 3D laser scanning and 3D model training and implementation. We employ a large core staff of 3D Designers and Engineers. We have strong partnerships with Intergraph, Hi-Cad, Autodesk, Trimble, Z+F and others.
C&I specializes in 3D modeling with over 18+ years experience with several different software packages across multi discipline and business units such as Refinery, Chemical and Energy.
In the mid 1990’s, C&I utilized Intergraph’s PDS and frameworks as our 3D tools of choice and continued its development and use thru 2008.
In 2008, C&I has adopted Intergraph’s next generation SmartPlant Plant Design suite for many medium to large green field and retrofit projects.
C&I currently uses and supports several 3D packages such as SmartPlant, Microstation, AutoCAD, AutoCad Civil 3D, CADWorx and Revit.
3D LASER SCANNING
3D laser scanning, along with taking digital photographs, is an effective way to collect existing field conditions. This information may also be beneficial to the P&ID walk down process while eliminating a considerable amount of field time. To finalize the information, a physical walk down is usually required to identify specific information like nameplate, valve tagging, and flange ratings if that information is not visible in the 3D Laser Scan or Photographs. Often a "rubbing" of a nameplate is the only way to read the information.
We utilize color photographs along with 3D Laser scans of existing conditions. Photographs are indexed and identified as to the locations. This helps identify field conditions including textures and colors of existing components.
We have successfully trained and utilized Trimble’s Realworks and Z+F's LFM laser scanning software.
3D DESIGN REVIEWS
C&I uses Navisworks and SmartPlant Review software to perform 3D “Fly-Through” for clients, inter-discipline engineering coordination and construction coordination. These visualization tools allow owners, operators and other stake-holders the ability to see the new design in virtual reality before construction begins. 3D “Fly-Through” may be utilized to train new operators on new units or systems. These review tools have many features that lend to a project’s success, such as: Animation, Clash and Interference Detection & Management, Collaboration, Photorealistic Visulation, and red line markups.
